Book Talk: The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas (ToG Prequel)

Hey, my darling readers!
I finished the actual Throne of Glass series, but let’s not forget the collection of novellas titled The Assassin’s Blade that acts as a prequel to TOG. Of course, I also had to devour that one. Let’s dive right into Celaena’s pre-TOG adventures!

The Plot:

The Assassin’s Blade consists of five novellas that recount Celaena’s life before the events in Throne of Glass. She meets the pirate Lord Rolfe, encounters Yrene, falls in love with Sam, …
The stories all serve as background information to stuff briefly touched in the TOG series!

The Rating:

First of all, bear in mind that all of the stories are just novellas, they are only loosely linked and don’t have as much scope and depth as a full-fledged novel!

That being said, I completely enjoyed The Assassin’s Blade. The stories are a nice addition to the TOG series and despite the short style, SJM managed to break my heart as well. (but more on that matter in my upcoming rant-post!)

Book Talk: Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas (ToG #7)

Hey, my darling readers!
We reached the end of Sarah J. Maas famous Throne of Glass series. (There will be a review for the prequel novella collection The Assassin’s Blade, though.) I am both happy and sad that it’s over. This book was really intense. So, let’s talk about Kingdom of Ash!

The Plot:

So many things going on in this one. While Rowan, Elide and the rest of the cadre try to free Aelin from Maeve’s clutches, Manon and Dorian are tracking the Crochans – and the Wyrdkeys. In the meantime, Aedion tries his best to ensure there’s a least a bit of Terrason left when everybody returns…

The Rating:

Before opening Kingdom of Ash I kept thinking “If Aelin isn’t out of that damn coffin by page 250, I’m hauling my ass over to Doranelle to finish off that bitch Maeve myself”. If that doesn’t echo your sentiments, you didn’t read the book right. I thought that part was the most evil thing SJM could come up with, but boy was I wrong.

While the chapters concerning Aelin’s torture were absolutely heartbreaking, that’s not what moved me most. My favorite chapter of the entire series, as well as the part that had me crying the hardest, are part of Kingdom of Ash, courtesy of Manon Blackbeak/Croachan/Kin Slayer. I won’t go into detail which particular moments I mean, but if you read the book, you probably already know and are now in search of a box of kleenex to dry your tears.

Book Talk: Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas (ToG #6)

Hello, my dear readers!
With Empire of Storms Sarah J. Maas wrecked me for good. Everything about it is just intense. So while I piece my heart back together, let’s talk about the fifth book in the Throne of Glass series!

The Plot:

Tower of Dawn takes place at the same time as Empire of Storms. We finally get to hear about Chaol’s adventures down South 😉

The Rating:

You know, prior to getting started with Tower of Dawn I had seen the cover on Goodreads and wondered why it was the only book of the series without a blond-haired chick on the cover. About 2/3 through Empire of Storms it finally dawned on me (terrible pun intended) that we didn’t hear a word about Chaol there and Tower of Dawn would probably be devoted to his journey.

After that realisation, I was both excited and annoyed. I really wanted to know what happens next (especially in terms of Aelin’s “situation”), so I debated just skipping TOD for now and going straight to Kingdom of Ash. Let me tell you: I am so glad that I didn’t!

Tower of Dawn is super thrilling and a whole lot of stuff is going on there. Despite some of the shit Chaol had pulled in the past novels, I was still rooting for him. I had my fingers crossed so hard that he’d accomplish his mission. Not just the one regarding an army but also concerning the situation about his legs.

Book Talk: Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas (ToG #5)

Hello, my dear readers!
With Empire of Storms Sarah J. Maas wrecked me for good. Everything about it is just intense. So while I piece my heart back together, let’s talk about the fifth book in the Throne of Glass series!

The Plot:

The final battle is near. Aelin is trying everything in her might to buy Terrasen and thus her court a chance at survival. But that is easier said than done. There’s always a price to pay…

The Rating:

Well, Sarah J. Maas really killed me with this one. What the hell was she thinking? Finishing the book with a cliffhanger like that is just pure evil. I am beyond glad that the series is already fully published and I can continue immediately. I feel truly sorry for all the fans who had to wait for the next part!

Believe me when I say many bombs are dropped in Empire of Storms. I spent I good portion of this novel with my mouth hanging open in disbelieve. Although I am not 100% that everything makes perfect sense, I was thrilled by all the plot twist and can’t wait to find out how the story will end.

Book Talk: Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas (ToG #4)

Hello, my lovely readers!
Queen of Shadows is finished and I already have too many feelings for this series to put them in a review. So, once I am done reading (and weeping) and did a proper little review for all the books, prepare for another post, that’ll be me fangirling, freaking out and dropping spoilers.
However, for now, let’s get started with Queen of Shadows.

The Plot:

The gang is back together and kickin’! Celaena aka Aelin aka Fire-Breathing-Bitch-Queen is back in Aderlan. Well, her friends hadn’t just been sitting on their asses while she was gone. There’s a rebellion to run, a kingdom to re-conquer…

The Rating:

OMG I just love how the leading ladies in TOG just get more badass with every page. Aelin is so sassy and full of sarcasm, she might be my spirit animal. During so many moments, I ended laughing out loud because of her.

So Rowaelin is finally happening (or getting there) and I am so excited. I am not a romance reader, but I spent the entire book waiting for them to get together.
It also seems, I not the only Rowan fan. Aedion is fangirling so hard, it’s almost ridiculous. I love it!

Book Talk: Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas (ToG #3)

Hello, my darling readers!
As I am making my way through Sarah J. Maas’ Throne of Glass series I recently finished part 3. So let’s talk about the super thrilling novel Heir of Fire!

The Plot:

After Chaol shipped her off to Wendlyn Caleana is trying to come to terms with a great many things – including Nehemia’s death. While she’s facing her Fae heritage and making new alliances, another lost child of Terrasen returns to Aderlan…

The Rating:

I can’t even tell you how excited I am after finishing Heir of Fire. The story is picking up speed and a huge plot twist is dropped. Admitted, I had seen it coming and had hoped it would happen. Maybe not quite this way but I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it.

First of all, we get to explore a bit of Wendlyn and Doranelle. Magic is still free in the east so you can prepare yourself for some cool stuff. However, not only new places but also new characters are introduced. If Prince Rowan and Celaena don’t end up together, I will be so mad. I’m already shipping them so hard.
