Technically, Christmas is already over but I’m still in a festive mood and have one more gem to share with you. Merry Christmas is based on real historical events and was even nominated for both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award in the category best foreign film!
It’s 1914. The first World War is already taking its toll. In the occupied part of France the Scots, the French and the German are facing each other. But on Christmas Eve the unexpected happens: A German opera singer who happens to be stationed there begins to sing a Christmas carol – and everybody joins in. For a few hours the three opposing powers negotiate a temporary truce that allows all of them to enjoy this day.
