Ranma 1/2 – A Review of all Seasons

Hey guys!
Today we’re taking a trip down memory lane, revisiting a show I watched as a kid. Let’s see how Ranma 1/2 holds up after all those years!

The Plot (according to IMDb):

Rumiko Takahashi’s story of a high school aged girl named Akane who finds herself engaged to be married because of an arrangement by her father. Unfortunately her fiance, Ranma, turns out to be less of a man than expected and was raised by a giant panda.

The Rating:

I think it’s been over 20 years since I had last seen this show. It had aired on German TV when I was a kid and I recall watching it. While I kept hearing about Pokemon or Sailor Moon on and off over the years, Ranma ½ somehow never was mentioned anywhere. That is until I randomly stumbled upon it on Hulu, so of course, a rewatch was in order!

First of all, I have one question: HOW ON EARTH WAS THIS EVER MARKETED TOWARDS CHILDREN??? I swear it used to literally air between Pokemon, Digimon, and the likes so whoever was responsible for channel composition back in the day probably only saw that it’s animation so it must be for kids. 😅 This show is something else, though. The sheer amount of nudity was actually ridiculous.

Squid Game

Hey y’all!
Everybody and their grandma were talking about this show a little while ago. As usual, I am late to the party but I finally checked out Squid Game!

The Plot (according to RT):

Hundreds of cash-strapped contestants accept an invitation to compete in children’s games for a tempting prize, but the stakes are deadly.

The Rating:

Okay, this was certainly interesting. I was all in at the beginning of the show but they lost me a bit along the way. Hear me out! I was definitely intrigued by the exploration of the darkness inside people. They stared the ugliness of greed and (gambling) addiction in the face and showed how far people will go. That part was really well written and made you want to see more.

The Squid Games themselves were mysterious and I was beyond curious to learn the background. Just the games they picked along the way were enough to keep me watching. What would they choose next? And then they hit you with the marbles episode and your heart is ripped out. I hadn’t seen that coming and goddamn that was well written. I think we can all agree that the acting was also absolutely on point. There wasn’t a single performance in the show I wouldn’t give a thumbs up.

However, we need to talk about some stuff I wasn’t too fond of. That will include loads of spoilers, so click the *read more* only if you are prepared for that!

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 7 – A Review

Hey guys!
This is it. We reached the 7th and final season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Watching this show has been hell of a ride, so let’s see whether it got an ending worthy of the amazing lead!

The Plot:

This is it. Buffy and the gang have to make their final stand. It’s not just some vampire or a demon they have to face. This time its is the first, the original evil they have to go up against. It’s the entire world that is at stake!

The Rating:

Oh so many feels! Before I say anything else, I’m just going to warn you of the spoilers after the *read more* tag. We reached season seven, so it’s pretty much impossible to talk about it without giving away stuff concerning the previous seasons, and I have some details of this season we need to get into…

What I can say without spoiling anything is that the acting performances were outstanding. The cast we came to love over the past season was amazing as usual, as were some of the new additions we got. The set-design was great, even though some of the CGI effects were so obviously fake, it was a little cringy. I guess it’s partially due to the show simply being a couple of years old but you also have to bear in mind that it was a TV production and not a blockbuster movie. So, I would assume that means you have a lot less budget to work with.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 6 – A Review

Hello folks! Another day, another Buffy review! We officially made it to the penultimate season. Let’s get right down to it and find out what season six has in store for us!

The Plot:

Buffy is dead. Where do we go from here? Who is going to save the world? Who is going to take care of Dawn? What will happen to the Scoobie gang? So many questions, let’s find some answers!

The Rating:

So much to talk about with season 6! There are many things I want to address, as usual spoilers will be below *read more*.

For now, let me just saw I was very impressed with the acting performances in this season. Sarah Michelle Gellar had been nothing short of badass before but this time it was not only her who delivered some stand-out scenes. Alyson Hannigan aka Willow really had some intense moments this season. Honestly, she would have deserved all the awards out there for what she did. And let’s not forget about Emma Caulfield aka Anya who is a crimially underrated actress! But let’s finally get to the nitty-gritty, shall we?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 5

Hey guys! Another day, another Buffy review.
We’ve already made it to season 5 – let’s see if the show can keep up it’s pacing and me intrigued!

The Plot:

Lots of things have changed and are about to change in Sunnydale. Do you remember Buffy’s sister?

The Rating:

EXCUSE ME. How well written was this season?! Admittely, we were off to a rocky start and I had my reserverations a the beginning, but damn, we have some episodes in season 5 that are nothing short of brilliant. I’m still feeling a little conflicted on the season as a whole but I am willing to forgive any of the imperfections due to some of the downright amazing episodes that easily balance everything out.

Unless you have seen seasons 1 to 4 pretty much everything from here on out will be a spoiler. Even if you have seen everything up to that point, I will be talking about some season 5 plot points in detail, so consider yourself warned!

Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Season 4 – A Review

Welcome back y’all!
We’ve made it to season 4 of Buffy. That means we are now past the halfway point! Let’s see how the show has been holding up thus far.

The Plot:

The highschool years are finally behind us. Against all odds Buffy made (and most of her friends) made it to college. But, as you probably expected, that isn’t exactly smooth sailing either. And it appears someone else is out to get some monsters…

The Rating:

Okay, so once more: this review will feature a lot of spoilers. There are so many things I want to discuss and unfortunately that won’t be able without giving away many big plot-twists of this season. So, if you haven’t seen it yet, you might want to skip the read-more button!

Let me just tell you that it was an intriguing season. By far not my favorite but the final episodes did make up for that!
