Thursday Movie Picks: Police Detective

Hey, guys!
Welcome to another entry for Thursday Movie Picks.
It’s a series hosted by Wandering Through the Shelves, so if you want to join the party, head over to her blog! It’s pretty easy: check out each week’s topic and come up with 3 to 5 movies that fit the theme.
This week, we’ll talk about some cool police detective flicks!

#1 From Hell

Let’s talk about one of the most famous serial killers of all time: Jack the Ripper. He was never caught but with From Hell we get an elaborate guess on what might have happened. Granted, it’s not the best movie out there, but I am fascinated by the topic and the graphic novel the film is based on is cool!

#2 Zodiac

Talking of killers that were never found. The Zodiac Killer is among America’s most famous murderers. The movie take on the investigation is also pretty interesting. Plus, it has Jake Gyllenhaal.

There were so many movies I looked forward to in 2020, more them half of them still haven’t dropped. Nevertheless, there were so pretty good films that did manage to come out. So let’s talk about some of those!

#1 Birds of Prey

You have no idea how excited I was to see this film. And it certainly didn’t dissapoint. It’s bright, loud, colorful, has an amazing soundtrack, kickass leading ladies and is just all around hell of a good time!

#2 Enola Holmes

I never cease to be surprised by how talented Millie Bobby Brown is. After seeing her in Stranger Things, I had a feeling that she’s destined for greatness. With Enola Holmes she once more demonstrates her abilities. She stars together with big names like Helena Bonham Carter or Henry Cavill but she easily plays them all against a wall!

This year we’ll be doing a bunch of posts on Oscar winners, kicking it off with the Best Picture category!

#1 Parasite

2019 was the first year where I actually saw almost all the movies nominated for Best Picture. Although I enjoyed every single one of them, Parasite was by far the best. It’s such an impressive movie and checked all the boxes for me. A deserved win.

#2 Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

I recently rewatched the LOTR trilogy and it’s still as amazing as it was almost 20 years ago when the films came out. LOTR is among the rare films that simply never get old. It’s a shame that only the last part one the Oscar for best picture, even though all three were nominated.

I really love today’s TV topic, so let’s get down to it.

#1 Doctor Who

A show that has been on air almost constantly since the 60s. Doctor Who is funny, heartbreaking and simply cool. Although I am still catching up with the original episodes (only 662 more episodes to go) I watched the rebooted series several times.

#2 Star Trek

A couple of years ago a small German TV channel did a re-run of the original Star Trek series. I loved everything about it and recently noticed that it’s also on Netflix!

Today I present to you the most famous holiday action movies, none of which I have seen so far. I will catch up one day. I promise.

#1 Die Hard

This is the ultimate holiday action movie. Enough said.

#2 Lethal Weapon

I could have listed this one for the buddy movie topic, but it’s an even better fit right here!

Hey, guys!

Today it’s time to honor some amazing female directors!

#1 Wonder Woman – Patty Jenkins

Most of the DCEU films were a giant mess but Wonder Woman is amazing. Maybe because it was direct by a woman…

#2 Thirteen – Catherine Hardwicke

I actually hadn’t been aware that Thirteen is also from a female director. It’s a pretty intense movie, so make sure to check it out.
