Thursday Movie Picks: Natural Disaster

Hey, guys!
Welcome to another entry for Thursday Movie Picks.
It’s a series hosted by Wandering Through the Shelves, so if you want to join the party, head over to her blog! It’s pretty easy: check out each week’s topic and come up with 3 to 5 movies that fit the theme.
Today we’re going to talk about some films that depict natural disasters!

#1 The Day After Tomorrow

In this movie hell – erm, sorry earth, freezes over due to climate change. I watched this film years ago and I know the only reason for that was Jake Gyllenhaal. There isn’t a single thing I seemed to be able to remember about the movie, so I’m not sure how good it was. 😂

#2 Armageddon

This one might be most famous for the Aerosmith song that came on the soundtrack. With a stellar cast inlcuding Liv Tyler, Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck, this movie shows how earth almost is destroyed by an asteroid.

Thursday Movie Picks: Worst Book to Movie Adaptations

Hey, guys!
Welcome to another entry for Thursday Movie Picks.
It’s a series hosted by Wandering Through the Shelves, so if you want to join the party, head over to her blog! It’s pretty easy: check out each week’s topic and come up with 3 to 5 movies that fit the theme.
Today we’re going to talk about some book to movie adaptations that went terribly wrong!

#1 The Handmaid’s Tale

Last month I wrote a T5T (similar to TMP but book themed!) post about books I liked better than their adaptations. I tried to go with different picks for this post, except for the first one. This is so freaking terrible it need to highlight it once more. You might be familiar with the TV adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale which is, quite frankly, brilliant. What most people don’t know is that there was already an attempt to adapt Margret Atwood’s book back in 1990. This movie is just insanely bad and it’s good that now it’s mostly forgotton.

#2 Percy Jackson

I read almost every book Rick Riordan has ever written and love each and every single one of them. Of course, I was excited about the adaptation. That was, until I actually watched it. I am downright astonished how they managed to fuck it up so terribly. And they even made a sequel!
However, now there is light at the end of the tunnel. A TV series adaptation is currently in the works under close watch of author Rick Riordan (who btw also despised the movies).

TMP Oscars Winners Edition: Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay

It’s the first Thursday of the month which means it is time for our Oscars Winners Edition. Today we’re going to cover best original as well as adapted screenplay. I bring you three picks for each!

#1 Promising Young Woman

This movie really fascinates me. It’s quite gritty and I wanted to see it when back before COVID I saw the first trailer in theaters. Emerald Fennell did a great job and it’s a well-deserved win.

#2 Django Unchained

Y’all knew I couldn’t write this post without including at least one Tarantino movie. Even though I wish Inglorious Basterds had won and I could list that one, Django Unchained is also brilliant!

TMP Television Edition: Globetrotting (Scripted, Non-reality, Non-travel, Non-docu series)

Hey, guys!

It’s the last Thursday of the month, that means today we’re talking about TV shows instead of films! The topic, globetrotting, was really difficult for me. Here you have some TV shows that give me serious wanderlust!

#1 The Crown

It’s been a while since I’ve been to the UK, but watching The Crown always makes me want to go back. There are so many beautiful landscapes to see, Scotland, Wales, etc. In addition we visit many of GB’s over-sea territories, which are nothing short of stunning.

#2 Narcos

I’ve never been to South or Central America but Narcos really makes me want to go!

Thursday Movie Picks: Cyberpunk

Hey, guys!
Welcome to another entry for Thursday Movie Picks.

Today’s topic is cyberpunk movies. At first I couldn’t really think of any films and didn’t quite know what to do with the topic. However, Wikipedia enlightened me to the fact that I have, as it turns out, seen a good number of cyberpunk flicks!

#1 The Matrix

This is such a classic. You have no idea how stupid I felt for not immediately thinking of The Matrix. Keanu Reeves is brilliant (I mean, when is he not?!) and really need to rewatch this one soon.

#2 Hackers

Is this one cheesy? Yes. Is it cringy? Yes. Does it makes sense? Dubious at best.
But you know what it is? It’s a good time. I had a lot of fun with Hackers! We get baby Jonny Lee Miller, Angelina Jolie and Matthew Lillard, so really, there isn’t anything to complain about. 😅

Thursday Movie Picks: Period Dramas

Hey, guys!
Welcome to another entry for Thursday Movie Picks.
It’s a series hosted by Wandering Through the Shelves, so if you want to join the party, head over to her blog! It’s pretty easy: check out each week’s topic and come up with 3 to 5 movies that fit the theme.
Today’s topic is recurring one: Period Dramas! Since I’m currently reading Pride and Prejudice, I decided to go with a little theme within the theme, and only do Jane Austen adaptations.

#1 Pride and Prejudice

Even though I have never seen this film, I know all about it as it appears to be a favorite of every single person who ever had a tumblr account. As soon as I am done with the book, this is on top of my to-watch list!

#2 Emma

I meant to go and see this at the cinema but then COVID happened and everything shut down. I still haven’t seen the film and I’m very sad about that. 😭
