Thursday Movie Picks: Combat Sports

Hey, guys!
Welcome to another entry for Thursday Movie Picks.
It’s a series hosted by Wandering Through the Shelves, so if you want to join the party, head over to her blog! It’s pretty easy: check out each week’s topic and come up with 3 to 5 movies that fit the theme.
This week we’re tackling movies featuring combat sports. I decided to go with a theme within the theme and focus on boxing movies!

#1 Raging Bull

First off, we have an absolute classic: Raging Bull which stars Robert De Niro in the leading role.

#2 Rocky

Next, we have one that’s just as famous: Rocky. I’m curious to see how many other people will have chosen this one as well!

We’re tackling another recurring theme this week, non-English language stuff. And because it is the last Thursday of the month, it’s TV shows instead of movies! I did a little theme within the theme and went with anime shows I recently (re)watched.

#1 Kill La Kill

I don’t even know what to say other than “jfc this was weird”. 😂

#2 Case Closed

I absolutely adored this show when I was a kid. Little did I know it is still on air *20 years later*!

Today we have one of my favorite topics to talk about, book adaptations!

#1 Dune

So, earlier this year I watched all David Lynch movies and while was at it, I also read Dune before checking out the film. Let me tell you, t’was bad. Very bad.

#2 Wild at Heart

I’ve seen this one countless times but I only learned recently that Wild at Heart is based on a book. Of course, I immediately had to pick it up and let me tell you, I was not impressed.

#1 Revenge

First off, we have Revenge. I guess the title says it all, but I didn’t love this movie too much, to be honest.

#2 I Spit on Your Grave

There are so many movies in this franchise by now! And I’ve only managed to check them out for the first time this year.

#1 The Notebook

Apparently, Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling really disliked each out – you couldn’t tell from the final product!

#2 Dirty Dancing

Next up we have Dirty Dancing. Apparently, Patrick Swayze was *not* fond of Jennifer Grey.

We end the month as we began it but instead of horror movie scores and themes, we look at TV shows!

#1 Twin Peaks

Maybe not 100% horror but Google listed Twin Peaks as such. And I adore the theme song.

#2 Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I watched all of Buffy for the first time last year and kinda fell in love with the theme song!
