Top 5 Tuesday: U – V – W – X – Y – Z

Hey, guys!
It’s Tuesday, that means it’s time for a bookish favorites posts. Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by Shanah Bionic Book Worm and is quite simple: check out the topic and write a post with your picks.
For this month, Shanah came up with something very special. Each Tuesday I share my top 5 books beginning with the respective letters of the alphabet assigned for the day.
It’s our final post for this month so I’m covering the remaining six letters, U, V, W, X, Y and Z!

U – The Umbrella Academy

I usually don’t read comics but after watching the Netflix adaptation I was curious. The style is pretty cool, but the story was weird (even weirder than the show!) and hard to follow. I read both volumes in an afternoon, so it wasn’t much of a loss but I definitely prefer the show.

V – The Vile Village

Did you know that there are 13 books in Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events? The Vile Village is one of them. It’s not my favorite in the series but I found it quite intriguing!

Book Talk: The Wicked King by Holly Black

Hello, my darling readers!
If you read my review on Holly Black’s The Cruel Prince, you know that I immediately fell in love with the story. Naturally, I had to pick up The Wicked King the very moment I finished The Cruel Prince. So let’s get talking!

The Plot:

After the huge stunt, Jude pulled in The Cruel Prince everybody is trying to settle into their new roles. But that doesn’t mean that things will go the way Jude planned them…

The Rating:

Just like with The Cruel Prince, I basically burned through this book.

Holly Black, how dare you ending The Wicked King with a cliffhanger like that? I can’t wait another year for the final installment! The story is so gripping, I need to know the fate of Jude!

Book Talk: The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

Hello, my darling readers!
I finally joined the party and picked up The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. Both this book and the sequel The Wicked King were all over Bookstagram and I fell in love with the cover art. So, let’s see if The Cruel Prince can live up to all the hype!

The Plot:

Jude’s life changed forever when she was only seven years old. Her parents were murdered and she as well as her sisters were whisked away to the Realm of Faeries. Ten years later Jude still struggles to find her place and fit in. Many of the fey despise mortals, among them Prince Cardan, the youngest son of the High King…

The Rating:

To be honest, I bought this book without really knowing what it was about. I fell in love when I saw the cover on Instagram and was completely convinced when I saw some fan art on tumblr.

Well, Holly Black didn’t disappoint me! The story is absolutely brilliant and the characters are super intricate. If you decide to read The Cruel Prince, make sure you pay attention to every little detail, as Black really likes to hide little hints for huge plot twists!

Top 5 Tuesday: Romantic Reads

Hey, guys!
It’s Tuesday, that means it’s time for a bookish favorites posts. Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by Bionic Book Worm and is quite simple: check out the topic and write a post with your picks.
Romantic Reads are a bit of a challenge for me, as I’m not a huge romance reader. Anyways, let’s make this work!

#1 Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda:

I know this is not exactly a new book, however, I only got around reading it recently. If this is not one of the cutest love stories ever, then I honestly don’t know. It’s just the kind of book you really want to hug. Simon mailing back and worth with blue and finally discovering his identity was an amazing read. Favorite love story ever!

#2 Heartless:

Another book I only recently picked up. You might have figured out by now that I like Marissa Meyer’s novels. With Heartless I had no idea what to expect but I found one of my favorite couples ever. Catherine is super relatable and I’d love to have a guy like Jest in my life!

Top 5 Tuesday: Book Spines

Hey, guys!
It’s Tuesday, that means it’s time for a bookish favorites posts. Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by Bionic Book Worm and is quite simple: check out the topic and write a post with your picks.
I’m afraid this week is a bit difficult for me. I get most of my books from the local library and those editions I did buy are stored in my parents’ basement. So, coming up with 5 beautiful book spines was a bit of a challenge, and I’m afraid that I can’t offer you too many pictures. Anyway, I hope you can still agree with my picks!

#1 The Wicked King by Holly Black:

I’m a bit late to the party, I know. But I finally finished reading The Cruel Prince and The Wicked King. Those books are SO stunning. Especially the spine of TWK with all the gold and the crown in contrast with the blue-green water is stunning!

The Wicked King by Holly Black

#2 Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J. K. Rowling:

Just like The Wicked King, this book also comes with gold embellishment. In addition to that, the first book in the series is colored purple which happens to be my favorite color. How could I now fall for that particular spine?
