Top 5 Tuesday: Spooky Worlds

It’s Tuesday, which means it’s time for a bookish favorites post. Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by Meeghan over on Meeghan Reads and is quite simple: check out the topic and write a post with your picks.
Continuing down the list of Halloween appropriate October themes, today we are dealing with Spooky worlds!

#1 Stephen King

So, I didn’t choose one particular Stephen King novel for it’s spooky world and there’s a reason for that. If you ever find yourself in Bangor, Maine, you can visit a great many places that not only inspired many of Kings books but also places where movie scenes based on his novels were shot. Oh, and Stephen King himself lives in Bangor as well. For example, It is set in Derry, Maine but many of the settings mentioned are clearly drawn from Bangor.

#2 The Handmaid’s Tale

So, I already mentioned this last week, but to me the setting of The Handmaid’s Tale is one of the scariest in all of literature. The world building is spot on and feels extremely realistic, which to me is the spookiest of all things.
