Midnight Mass

Hey guys!
I was pretty excited when Midnight Mass was released on Netflix. What better time to finally check it out and review it than spooky season? Let’s get down to it!

The Plot (according to RT):

The arrival of a charismatic priest brings miracles, mysteries, and renewed religious fervor to a dying town.

The Rating:

I went into this film completely blind with absolutely no idea what it was about. I didn’t even watch the trailer. But several people told me how good the show was and, not gonna lie, the image on Netflix and the title had me intrigued. Sure, I had some theories about what this might be just based on the title but the show turned out quite different than I had imagined.

Literally, the very first scene of the show was something I had not seen coming. I was extremely surprised but it was already a good indication for one thing this series continually did: make you think. What I liked best about Midnight Mass is definitely that it provides so much food for thought.

I will be discussing some details after the *read more*, so beware of spoilers. Let me just say that I really enjoyed the show and would recommend it. So, let’s get down and dirty and talk details!

Hollywood: Mini-Series – A Review

Hey guys!
Today I bring you a mini-series I’ve been excited about ever since Netflix dropped the first trailer. I binged it the first day it was available – it only took me a couple of months to write the review. Anyways, here we go!

The Plot:

It’s the 1940s in Hollywood. We follow a group of aspiring actors trying to make it in the film industry. There’s a good amount of hurdles the world throws their way…

Hollywood on Rotten Tomatoes

The Rating:

Okay, so my feelings about this show are a bit mixed.
This mini-series features a good amount of over-the-top moments that will irritate you. At the same time, there are also scenes that are quite touching and entertaining.

Honestly, the first episode with that whole hooker thing was already so crazy, I wasn’t sure I’d end up liking this show. However, there are only seven episodes, you can watch this in an afternoon so I kept going.

TV Show Spotlight: The Lava Field

Hey guys!
Today I have something very unusual. In 2014 an impressive mini-TV-series was produced in Iceland. Well, I can’t let you miss out on this gem!

(Unfortunately I could only find a German trailer, but you get the picture)

What is it about?
Detective Helgi Marvin Runarsson is called to a crime scene. What at first appears to be a suicide soon raises many questions. Far more people have a connection to this murder than anyone would have believed. The investigations become dangerous not only to Runarsson, but also to his family…

Why should you check it out?
I stumbled upon this one completely by surprise but I have to admit those guys up North really know how to make a good thriller. The plot is gripping, fascinating and really pulls you in. We dive into the unknown depths of the Icelandic underground and are left with a crime story that goes under your skin. Continue reading

TV Show Spotlight: Adventure Time Mini-Series: Stakes!

Hey Guys!
Today’s post is another one of those that have been sitting in my draft folder for ages gathering dust. I honestly don’t know why, I was thrilled when I watched it!

What is it about?
I’ve already talked about the TV show Adventure Time in detail over here. But in season seven they surprised and delighted by devoting eight episode to Marceline the Vampire Queen. She decides she doesn’t want to be a vampire any longer and takes a trip down memory lane. We finally learn how Marceline came to be the Vampire Queen!

Why should you check it out?
Well, Adventure Time itself is one of the weirdest and funniest animated TV shows out there. The characters are beyond fabulous and I just love the colorful land of Ooo. Marceline has always been one of my favourite characters and in this mini series we finally learn about her past. Honestly, these are some of my favourite episodes. So many new characters, so many fantastic ideas! Continue reading
