Movie Mania: Joker

Hello, hello!
I FINALLY have the time to review one of the films I was most excited about in 2019. Joaquin Phoenix has been on my radar for a long time, so what is it he can contribute to a character we’ve already seen many versions of?

The Plot:

This is not a Batman film. (Bat-who?)
As you might have guessed from the name Joker focuses on Arthur Fleck and his journey to becoming one of the most famous comic villains…

The Rating:

This was so brilliant!
As I walked out of the cinema I was thinking “Is there already a petition for Joaquin Phoenix to get an Academy Award and where can I sign it?”.

I know the thoughts on this film couldn’t be more opposing but I thought it’s a masterpiece. Why? I’m so glad you asked!

Thursday Movie Picks: 2019 Releases

Hey, guys!
Welcome to another entry for Thursday Movie Picks.
It’s a series hosted by Wandering Through the Shelves, so if you want to join the party, head over to her blog! It’s pretty easy: check out each week’s topic and come up with 3 to 5 movies that fit the theme.
Today I’ll share some of my favorite films that came out last year. Reviews for all of those are coming in April – so stay tuned!

#1 Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

I actually went to see this one twice. Tarantino’s latest picture divides audiences and I can understand why some people disliked it. However, I for my part had a great time with it!

#2 Ready or Not

Speaking of great times! I laughed so much while watching this crazy movie. Samara Weaving is stunning and in the final scenes, she gave me Heather vibes. Ready or Not was (by far) not as hyped as my other picks but it gets a 100% recommendation from me.

Book Talk: Heartless by Marissa Meyer

Hello, my darling readers!
As I mentioned before, I picked up a bunch of books by Marissa Meyer. I already reviewed Stars Above and Cinder. However, not it’s time for something not related to The Lunar Chronicles.
Let me introduce you to Heartless!

The Plot:

Catherine might soon be the happiest woman in all of Wonderland. Rumor has it, the King of Hearts wants to marry her.
What would fill most young women with excitement, only fills her with dread. She doesn’t want to be Queen, she doesn’t even want to be a lady. All Cathrine wants is to open her own bakery.
Well, life is what happens while you’re busy making plans…

The Rating:

I have a confession to make. I picked up Heartless without having the faintest idea what the book would be about. Honestly, I hadn’t even read the blurb.
The Lunar Chronicles were fascinating, so I figured I’d also enjoy this book by Marissa Meyer and added it to my stack.

You can imagine, I was a bit surprised that Heartless is set in Wonderland (as in Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland). Once I had settled into the story, I just couldn’t stop reading. Marissa Meyer creating a capturing narrative that is unique despite being closely interspersed with something so famous.

Movie Mania: Suicide Squad

Hey Guys!

Today were gonna tackle THE movie everyone is talking about. The world waited long for Suicide Squad to be released – now it’s out and from what you hear it’s rather disappointing. But is that really true?

The Plot:
Gotham’s finest assortment of bad guys (and girls) is recruited for a rather tough job. Some evil witch (who should actually be crumbling to dust) is possession an archeologist and also just decided to take over the world. Well, looks like a jolly good afternoon… Continue reading
