Happy Death Day 2U

Hello, my darling readers!
The other day I talked about the movie Happy Death Day, which I ended up enjoying a fair bit. Well, of course I also sat down to check out the sequel, Happy Death Day 2U. So, let’s find out how that one holds up in comparison!

The Plot (according to Rotten Tomatoes):

Collegian Tree Gelbman wakes up in horror to learn that she’s stuck in a parallel universe. Her boyfriend Carter is now with someone else, and her friends and fellow students seem to be completely different versions of themselves. When Tree discovers that Carter’s roommate has been altering time, she finds herself once again the target of a masked killer. When the psychopath starts to go after her inner circle, Tree soon realizes that she must die over and over again to save everyone.

The Rating:

Let me begin this with saying that I definitely liked this one less than the first movie. But I do appreciate that while working with the same concept they tried to give it a different spin. The question is, however, is this a spin I particularly liked.

We start off almost exactly like we did in the first film – somebody is stuck in a loop, it’s just a different character this time. To be honest, for a moment I thought they’d just unoriginally copy-pasted the first flick and got very annoyed. While I liked the first film, I wasn’t so sucked in to the whole thing that I’d want to watch another movie just like that. Especially because sequels that do the copy-past thing usually pale in comparison to the first film.

Happy Death Day

Hello, hello!
We’re almost halfway through October and thus it’s almost Halloween! I’m pretty sure that means I’m legally required to provide you with more horror movie reviews. So, here we go!

The Plot (according to Rotten Tomatoes):

Tree Gelbman is a blissfully self-centered collegian who wakes up on her birthday in the bed of a student named Carter. As the morning goes on, Tree gets the eerie feeling that she’s experienced the events of this day before. When a masked killer suddenly takes her life in a brutal attack, she once again magically wakes up in Carter’s dorm room unharmed. Now, the frightened young woman must relive the same day over and over until she figures out who murdered her.

The Rating:

I had heard quite a lot about this film and most of it rather positive! So, I was curious to finally see this flick that twists Groundhog Day into a horror story.

The good news: it’s pretty well done and the story works. Does that mean it’s perfect? Hell no. Does it make sense 100% of the way? Not really. Would I watch it again? Unlikely. But it is the perfect film to add to your list if you sit down on Halloween to binge horror flicks all day!
