The other day I talked about the movie Happy Death Day, which I ended up enjoying a fair bit. Well, of course I also sat down to check out the sequel, Happy Death Day 2U. So, let’s find out how that one holds up in comparison!
The Plot (according to Rotten Tomatoes):
Collegian Tree Gelbman wakes up in horror to learn that she’s stuck in a parallel universe. Her boyfriend Carter is now with someone else, and her friends and fellow students seem to be completely different versions of themselves. When Tree discovers that Carter’s roommate has been altering time, she finds herself once again the target of a masked killer. When the psychopath starts to go after her inner circle, Tree soon realizes that she must die over and over again to save everyone.
Let me begin this with saying that I definitely liked this one less than the first movie. But I do appreciate that while working with the same concept they tried to give it a different spin. The question is, however, is this a spin I particularly liked.
We start off almost exactly like we did in the first film – somebody is stuck in a loop, it’s just a different character this time. To be honest, for a moment I thought they’d just unoriginally copy-pasted the first flick and got very annoyed. While I liked the first film, I wasn’t so sucked in to the whole thing that I’d want to watch another movie just like that. Especially because sequels that do the copy-past thing usually pale in comparison to the first film.Continue reading
