Book Talk: Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas (ToG #7)

Hey, my darling readers!
We reached the end of Sarah J. Maas famous Throne of Glass series. (There will be a review for the prequel novella collection The Assassin’s Blade, though.) I am both happy and sad that it’s over. This book was really intense. So, let’s talk about Kingdom of Ash!

The Plot:

So many things going on in this one. While Rowan, Elide and the rest of the cadre try to free Aelin from Maeve’s clutches, Manon and Dorian are tracking the Crochans – and the Wyrdkeys. In the meantime, Aedion tries his best to ensure there’s a least a bit of Terrason left when everybody returns…

The Rating:

Before opening Kingdom of Ash I kept thinking “If Aelin isn’t out of that damn coffin by page 250, I’m hauling my ass over to Doranelle to finish off that bitch Maeve myself”. If that doesn’t echo your sentiments, you didn’t read the book right. I thought that part was the most evil thing SJM could come up with, but boy was I wrong.

While the chapters concerning Aelin’s torture were absolutely heartbreaking, that’s not what moved me most. My favorite chapter of the entire series, as well as the part that had me crying the hardest, are part of Kingdom of Ash, courtesy of Manon Blackbeak/Croachan/Kin Slayer. I won’t go into detail which particular moments I mean, but if you read the book, you probably already know and are now in search of a box of kleenex to dry your tears.

Book Talk: Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas (ToG #6)

Hello, my dear readers!
With Empire of Storms Sarah J. Maas wrecked me for good. Everything about it is just intense. So while I piece my heart back together, let’s talk about the fifth book in the Throne of Glass series!

The Plot:

Tower of Dawn takes place at the same time as Empire of Storms. We finally get to hear about Chaol’s adventures down South 😉

The Rating:

You know, prior to getting started with Tower of Dawn I had seen the cover on Goodreads and wondered why it was the only book of the series without a blond-haired chick on the cover. About 2/3 through Empire of Storms it finally dawned on me (terrible pun intended) that we didn’t hear a word about Chaol there and Tower of Dawn would probably be devoted to his journey.

After that realisation, I was both excited and annoyed. I really wanted to know what happens next (especially in terms of Aelin’s “situation”), so I debated just skipping TOD for now and going straight to Kingdom of Ash. Let me tell you: I am so glad that I didn’t!

Tower of Dawn is super thrilling and a whole lot of stuff is going on there. Despite some of the shit Chaol had pulled in the past novels, I was still rooting for him. I had my fingers crossed so hard that he’d accomplish his mission. Not just the one regarding an army but also concerning the situation about his legs.

Book Talk: Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas (ToG #5)

Hello, my dear readers!
With Empire of Storms Sarah J. Maas wrecked me for good. Everything about it is just intense. So while I piece my heart back together, let’s talk about the fifth book in the Throne of Glass series!

The Plot:

The final battle is near. Aelin is trying everything in her might to buy Terrasen and thus her court a chance at survival. But that is easier said than done. There’s always a price to pay…

The Rating:

Well, Sarah J. Maas really killed me with this one. What the hell was she thinking? Finishing the book with a cliffhanger like that is just pure evil. I am beyond glad that the series is already fully published and I can continue immediately. I feel truly sorry for all the fans who had to wait for the next part!

Believe me when I say many bombs are dropped in Empire of Storms. I spent I good portion of this novel with my mouth hanging open in disbelieve. Although I am not 100% that everything makes perfect sense, I was thrilled by all the plot twist and can’t wait to find out how the story will end.
