Disney is currently busy turning all my beloved childhood favorites into live-action movies. I wasn’t that over the moon with Beauty and the Beast but still wanted to give Aladdin a shot. So let’s see how this one turned out!
You know the deal: blue genie, cute guy from the streets, princess, and a power-hungry dude, lots of singing…
By turning all the famous animated films into live-action remakes, Disney has found a very profitable source of income.
Well, I grew up with the original films and they hold a special place in my heart. So, of course, I had to check out the new version of Aladdin.
First of all, let me say this was better than expected. Not flawless but decent.
I enjoyed the casting for both Jasmin and Aladdin and think these actors both did a great job. I was curious to see what Will Smith would do as Genie. Robin Williams left giant footsteps to fill, so it was not easy for Smith to step in his shoes. At times I had the feeling Smith was holding back, not wanting to compete with Williams thus making for a rather bland Genie in several scenes.
