Hey, guys!
It’s Tuesday, which means it’s time for a bookish favorites post. Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by Meeghan over on Meeghan Reads and is quite simple: check out the topic and write a post with your picks.
Today we are going to talk about books that are set in an alternate universe!
#1 The Golden Compass
First up we have The Golden Compass. I was looking at the Wikipedia page earlier and there it is described as “alternate retrofuturistic Earth” which sounds pretty badass. I was quite intrigued by the concept of daemons in this novel.
#2 Neverwhere
I haven’t read this one yet but I really like Neil Gaiman’s idea. So, this has been on my radar for a while. There’s a secret world below London that features “monsters and saints, murderers and angels, knights in armour and pale girls in black velvet.” (according to the Goodreads page)
I’m definitely down for that!
#3 Howl’s Moving Castle
Here we get an alternate universe with witches and magic! For the longest time, I wasn’t aware that this book exists, I had only ever seen the study Ghibli movie. But now that I’ve read it, I will never get over the fact that in the novel Howl actually is a Welsh rugby player. 🤣
#4 The Lightning Thief
I love all things mythology so all the alternate universes Rick Riordan has created fascinate me. Imagine a world where demigods exist?! Where the ancient gods are real?!
#5 Inkheart
The alternate universe from Inkheart is every booklover’s dream. A world where things, creatures, and characters from books become real sounds both amazing and terrifying.

Loved your choices. I dunno if you’re a comics person, but there’s a comics adaptation of Neverwhere that really brings the ideas to life.
