Thursday Movie Picks: Math in Movies

Hey, guys!
Welcome to another entry for Thursday Movie Picks.
It’s a series hosted by Wandering Through the Shelves, so if you want to join the party, head over to her blog! It’s pretty easy: check out each week’s topic and come up with 3 to 5 movies that fit the theme.
Today we’re talking about some films featuring math!

#1 21

21 is about a mathematics student who joins some other college kids who really get into Blackjack, counting cards and figuring out strategies, making a ton of money in Vegas.

#2 A Beautiful Mind

This will probably be the most popular film today. A Beautiful Mind depicts the troubled life of the American mathematician John Nash.

#3 Good Will Hunting

In Good Will Hunting, a young man who works as a janitor at MIT solves some intricate maths problems nobody else could.

  1. Of the films in that list, Good Will Hunting is the only film that I like on that list. I hate the other 2 films. One is a bad Oscar-bait film and the other is just dull and bland as it has some of the worst digital photography ever captured on film. Vegas is never a good place to shoot digitally.

  2. We Match with Good Will Hunting. It’s good film and love Robin Williams. I thought A Beautiful Mind would be the one to beat but it seems Hidden Figures took top spot. I thought Russell Crowe did a great job as this troubled genius. 21 is a good movie but nothing major to me.
