Halloween/ TMP Television Edition: Horror

Hey, guys!
Welcome to another entry for Thursday Movie Picks.
It’s a series hosted by Wandering Through the Shelves, so if you want to join the party, head over to her blog! It’s pretty easy: check out each week’s topic and come up with 3 to 5 movies that fit the theme.
We’ve made it to the last Thursday of October and to the last Halloween TMP for this year. It’s all about horror TV shows today!

#1 Stranger Things

I was a bit late to the party with Stranger Things but it’s such a cool show! It definitely has horror elements and I can’t believe I never picked it before. Also, the new season is coming soon and I’m very excited about that!

#2 The Haunting of Hill House

This is such a good adaptation! I didn’t really like the book The Haunting of Hill House, but Netflix really nailed the horror vibe with the show!

#3 Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Can you believe that I had never seen Buffy until now? For this month I binged and reviewed all the season and ended up enjoying the show quite a lot.

What’s your favorite horror TV show? Let me know in the comments!

  1. We match on Hill House!! I was considering mentioning Stranger Things as well, especially as I’m dressing as Robin for Halloween, but then it turned out that I watch quite a lot of horror shows and my list was already pretty long haha

  2. I’ve at least heard of all of these though I’ve seen none.

I have seen the original adaptation of Hill House simply called The Haunting with Julie Harris from the 60’s, it’s masterful so I’m not really intrigued by a new version.

I know people just love Buffy but I could never stand Sarah Michelle Geller. Because of her I never felt the slightest interest in the show.

I rarely if ever watch weekly horror on TV but I use to watch anthologies when I was younger so that’s what I fell back on.

Hammer House of Horror (1980)-British anthology series created by Hammer Films consisting of thirteen hour-long episodes featuring various kinds of horror-witches, werewolves, ghosts, devil-worship, voodoo etc. The stories were populated with some of the leading performers in England at the time-Peter Cushing, Denholm Elliott, Diana Dors-as well as future stars like Pierce Brosnan who were just starting out.

Circle of Fear aka Ghost Story (1972-73)-Similar in construction to House of Horror but produced in America offered tales of the supernatural horror with an astonishing list of talent-Jodie Foster, Gena Rowlands, Jason Robards, Patty Duke, Patricia Neal, Tyne Daly, Helen Hayes etc. every week.

Thriller (1960-62)-Anthology series hosted by Boris Karloff originally was conceived more in the mystery/thriller vein of Alfred Hitchcock Presents but moved more towards Gothic horror shortly after its debut. Again, the cast list is packed with future stars-Mary Tyler Moore, Elizabeth Montgomery, William Shatner, Leslie Nielsen and Cloris Leachman to name only a few.

  3. Ah, we match with Buffy. I’m a big fan of that show.
Stranger Things gets an honorary mention from me this week, as I had too many others I wanted to include. It’s a great show and I’m excited to see what the next series brings.
