Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 1 – A Review

Hello guys!
I know, I’m like 30 years late to the party but have you seen BUFFY? I started watching and now I’m hooked! Let’s talk about season 1. 😀

The Plot:

Buffy seems like your regular teenager you’d run into at any highschool. Except that she is not. Buffy is a slayer, so it’s her job to kill vampires and other supernatural folk endangering mankind. Tight schedule when you just want to live like a regular teenager…

The Rating:

Guys, GUYS! Finally, I get to watch this. On Amazon Prime Buffy is available to watch in English when for the longest while they only had it in German. That means I have a lot of catching up to do.

One season in, I already love the show. Sure, there are many clichés both in terms of high school shows and horror flicks. However, many of the characters like Willow or Xander are absolutely delightful, so I have no complaints.

My favorite character is probably the librarian. Giles is just so very British, it’s 100% my cup of tea. Also, it’s so funny to finally see Anthony Heard in this role. Every time his face pops up, my first thought is “look it’s the Prime Minister” because I primarily know him from Little Britain. I recently started with Merlin as well, so now I’m getting to know him as Uther Pendragon as well. It’s fascinating that depending on which generation you are, you probably strongly associate him with one specific character.

While I mentioned that some moments feel a bit cliché, overall the show’s trying hard to give the characters more depth and throw in episodes that defy expectations. There were several episodes that surprised me and were deeper than I would have expected. That just leaves me super excited for the other seasons that are to come.

I’m not too sure about the whole Angel thing, but I guess it was necessary to throw in a love interest or the show would have been canceled immediately. We’ll see how that’ll go in the rest of the show. I did, however, like the funny moments the show gives us. The humor is right down my alley. Furthermore, the 90’s grunge soundtrack is sooooooooo dope. I swear I have to pull out Shazam every five minutes so I can make a playlist with all those tracks.

I’m 30 years late, but I love this show. I can’t wait to binge-watch the rest. Just hope the remaining seasons are as good as the first one!
