Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy (Skulduggery Pleasant #1)

Hey guys!
A friend convinced me to finally give the Skulduggery Pleasant books a chance. So here we are with my thoughts on the first novel. Did I like it? Let’s find out!

The Plot (according to Goodreads):

Meet Skulduggery Pleasant

Ace Detective
Snappy Dresser
Razor–tongued Wit
Crackerjack Sorcerer
and
Walking, Talking,
Fire-throwing Skeleton

—as well as ally, protector, and mentor of Stephanie Edgley, a very unusual and darkly talented twelve-year-old.

These two alone must defeat an all-consuming ancient evil.

The end of the world?

Over his dead body.

The Rating:

A friend of mine is a huge fan of these books and she convinced me to pick them up as well.

I always like a good mystery and these books had been on my radar for a while now, so I was pretty excited to get started with Skulduggery Pleasant. Long story short, I basically burned through the first installment and can’t to read the next one.

Why did I like it?
First of all, it’s such a cool idea to have an undead skeleton detective. The worldbuilding that basically adds another layer to our world is great and I’m curious to find out more on that front.

The book is well-written and the mystery part of the story comes across nicely. There are several twists and turns, so you’ll be continuously surprised but still encouraged to keep guessing along.

Furthermore, Skulduggery’s new friend Stephanie – or Valkyrie Cain as she calls herself – is an amazing character. I can’t wait to find out more about that feisty girl who never backs down!

After just one book I am already hooked. I have no choice now but to binge-read to the other eight installments as well!
