Hey, guys!
It’s Tuesday, which means it’s time for a bookish favorites post. Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by Meeghan over on Meeghan Reads and is quite simple: check out the topic and write a post with your picks.
Today is going to be the final day of our little hyped books mini-series. Let’s talk about some hyped books I didn’t enjoy!
#1 A Court of Thornes and Roses
Hear me out on this one! ACOTAR was pretty much everywhere so I succumbed and checked it out. The first novel was very underwhelming to me. I was intrigued enough to read the next books, which I really enjoyed. But the first ACOTAR book is a bit of a disappointment.
#2 The Perks of Being a Wallflower
This might be the most controverisal book on this list. I know many people love The Perks of Being a Wallflower but for me, there was practically nothing about this novel that I enjoyed. Just nope.
#3 The Devil Wears Prada
You might have seen the movie based on this book which is funny and charming. That led me to give the novel a shot but, oh boy, I shouldn’t have. I wanted to fling this book out the damn window. While the film deserves all the hype, the book, most certainly, does not.
#4 The Girl on the Train
I remember being at the cinema and seing the trailer for the upcoming adaptation of The Girl on the Train. I was intrigued but because I am me, I just had to read the book first. Everybody seemed to love it, so how bad could it be?
Maybe the what I refer to as “crazy bitch” genre just isn’t for me, but this novel was not working for me in any capacity.
#5 Paper Towns
I’ve talked about this before but other than The Fault in Our Stars there isn’t a single John Green book I have ever enjoyed. In fact, I read Paper Towns just after that, thinking I would love it. Wrong. This book was so fucking annoying, there are few characters I hate more than Margo. This really did not live up to the hype at all.

Right?! With some books you can tell what the hype is about but it just isn’t for you. With this one I couldn’t even see the appeal.

I heard The Devil Wears Prada was a major improvement on the book as it’s one of those rare cases where the film is better than the book. I usually don’t read books that are adapted into film as I think they’re just different mediums as the film can sometimes improve on the book.

The book drove me quite mad and pissed me off *so* much and that rarely happens. Anne Hathaway’s character on screen is amazing while in the book you just want to slap her. 😂

I was expecting to see more John Green on lists today… but apart from my own and Kaya’s, yours is the first one I’ve seen!! You’ve also got allies with a few of the others as I’ve seen ACOTAR a couple of times today. It’s definitely not for everyone!! 😂

I always thought everybody except me loves John Green, I’m glad to see I’m not alone 😂

I don’t mind some of his books, but they are not great (I definitely hated Turtles though). Although, it’s been a LOT of years since I’ve read any, so it’s possible I could shove them further down the dislike line now. 😂
