Sexify Season 1 – A Review

Hello, my darling readers!
You know when you finish watching something on Netflix, don’t hit the “back” button fast enough and it starts playing some random trailer? That happened to me the other day and the new show Netflix decided to present me with was Sexify. I didn’t know what to make of it, it looked weird and slightly crazy. Well, there only 8 episodes, so I decided to give it a shot. How did that turn out, you ask?

The Plot (according to RT):

To build an innovative sex app and win a tech competition, a sexually inexperienced student and her friends must explore the daunting world of intimacy.

The Rating:

This was suprisingly cool! A I mentioned before, I didn’t really have any idea what to expect but the show won me over pretty quickly.
First of all, this is not an American production, it was actually made in Poland. That makes for such a nice change of scenery. I’ve been to Warsaw before and I just loved spotted places I’ve seen there. It really is a beautiful city.
Furthermore, based on what you can se on screen you can already tell this isn’t an American show. There is a certain amount of nudity. But it’s Europe. We don’t give a fuck over here. Makes me kinda wonder how people over in the U.S. will react to the show. 😅

But again, the nudity feature works well with the story. After all, the show is about a sex-app. Which is nothing dirty. The concept may sound weird but essentially, the women working on the app simply want to help women reach orgasm which in fact can be a pretty rare thing. They are even quite scientific and organized about this. Not to hate on the U.S. or anything, but I can’t help but think that this production simply wouldn’t have been possible or it would have gone into a different direction.

However, this doesn’t mean the show is serious one. There are so many hilarious moments! Somehow they managed to pair that nicely with interesting subjects. For example, one of the ladies working on the app is evidently dealing with guilt based on religion. Sex before marriage? Getting married? Settling down, having kids? Living the life everybody expects you to? But will that make you happy? She goes through quite an evolultion trying to find out who she is.
I don’t want to spoil the show for you, so I’m not gonna go into detail on every issue that gets addressed. Let me just say every one of the three ladies comes a long way in this show!

Let’s briefly talk about the app they are developing. With what they try to achive they are tackling a tabboo topic that should not be a tabboo. I don’t know if there is an app already out there like this but I honestly think it would be quite successful. The reaction they get from other women on the show is something that felt rather realistic. Overall, as ridiculous and over the top as the show can be at times, at heart it is very realistic! I simply appreciate how the show tackled the issue at hand and maybe it will get some people talking – and thinking.

Sexify may be a weird show, but it has it’s heart in the right place. The cast is amazing, the story unique and well written. While Sexify has it’s little flaws, overall I really enjoyed watching and was just so pleasantly surprised!
