TMP Television Edition: 2020 Freshmen Series

Hey, guys!
Welcome to another entry for Thursday Movie Picks.
It’s a series hosted by Wandering Through the Shelves, so if you want to join the party, head over to her blog! It’s pretty easy: check out each week’s topic and come up with 3 to 5 movies that fit the theme.
As is customary for the last Thursday of each month, instead of films we talk about TV shows. To be more precise, today we’ll tackle some series that premiered in 2020. Instead of showing you my favorite things I watched, I’m gonna list some super intriguing shows I didn’t get to – but I hope I’ll have time to remedy that soon!

#1 Penny Dreadful: City of Angels

I enjoyed the original Penny Dreadful show so freaking much. And I was excited for this new spin-off to drop. It has Natalie Dormer, so it just has to be good, right? Soon!

#2 Lovecraft Country

This was has been on my rader since news first dropped that the show would be made. However, I wanted to read the book first. It’s stuck somewhere on my 300 books long list of stuff I want to tackle. 🙈

#3 Motherland Fort: Salem

Did somebody say witches? I swear, I will materialize out of thin air if the topic comes up. Amazon has been heavily advertising this show to me on top of that. I swear, once I am all caught up with my current endavors, this is next!

What’s your favorite show that premiered in 2020? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Nice picks! I was a bit lost with Lovecraft Country’s story, but I loved the cast, production design, and costumes. Haven’t seen the other two, but I had no idea they did a spin-off of Penny Dreadful. That’s pretty cool.

  2. I’ve only seen a couple of episodes of Penny Dreadful, so beautiful but soooo scary!! I have an undying love for Timothy Dalton so even though I don’t normally watch horror, I braved myself to watch it and it’s STILL too terrifying for me. Not sure I’ll watch the spin-off. But I’m super curious about Lovecraft Country!

  3. Even though I love Penny Dreadful, I wasn’t that too interested in the spinoff. The selling point of the original Penny Dreadful series for me was the literary horror references. But the spinoff I think are stories around Mexican folklore, which I know nothing which means I won’t get any of the references they make.
