Hello, my darling readers!
It’s almost Christmas, can you believe that? I could swear it was March only yesterday.
There is one particular Christmas movie I was curious about. Last year (a little late to the party as usual) I watched The Christmas Chronicles, and Netflix dropped a sequel this year!
The Plot (from Rotten Tomatoes):
Teenager Kate Pierce is reunited with Santa Claus when a troublemaker threatens to cancel Christmas — forever.
Let’s see, what can I say about this one?
Overall I did enjoy it but you shouldn’t have your expectations up too high.
First of all, what was good about this sequel?
Everybody returned. It’s lovely that we actually get to see all the actors and actresses from part one again! I’m especially excited about Kurt Russell who is absolutely perfect as Santa. I was so stoked that he’d return for another movie, and it gets even better! His real-life love Goldie Hawn joins the cast to play Santa’s wife – that is so cute!
What I enjoyed as well is the CGI stuff. The elves are beyond adorable and I loved watching them running around. The animals were also done rather well and the reindeer, as well as the yule cat, looked dope.
Now, for my criticism. The story is a bit weak. I wouldn’t necessarily mind but the movie is rather long (almost two hours). I ended up checking several times how much longer it is as the story felt extremely drawn-out considering how thing the plot is. It’s your basic cookie cutter Christmas movie where you turn of your brain grab some hot cocoa and enjoy it. Don’t think too hard about it, don’t question it, just bask in the Christmas bliss.
I didn’t enjoy the sequel as much as the first film. Miraculously they managed to squeeze a musical number in here as well with Kurt Russell breakdancing. That seemed both repetitive and unnecessary. I think, if they had cut the film some more, I would have liked it better.
Nevertheless, it was cute enough. Not a big recommendation but if you are on a Christmas movie marathon, it doesn’t hurt to throw it in. The first film was better, but this one isn’t half bad either!
Did you watch the film? Let me know in the comments!
