Sherlock: Seasons 1 to 4 – A Review

Hello, my darling readers!
You know what they say: better late than never!
I finally binged all four Sherlock seasons, so I want to share a few quick thoughts I have about them.

The Plot:

You know the drill: Sherlock Holmes (a dash eccentric), Dr. Watson and a load of crimes to be solved!

The Rating:

Why did I wait so long with this?!
I absolutely loved it. Benedict Cumberbatch’s take on Sherlock is amazing and although most people would call him antisocial, I find him to be very relatable. In the first episode we get the following exchange:

Sherlock Holmes:
Shut up.
DI Lestrade:
I didn’t say anything.
Sherlock Holmes:
You were thinking. It’s annoying.

I felt that. Yes, I am weird as well. Sorry, not sorry.

Furthermore, I enjoy the modern twist on the familiar mysteries. I read several Sherlock Holmes books/stories and I never really got into that. With this show, however, I was hooked from the first episode on.

The chemistry between Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman (who plays Watson) is also great. I’m sure the had the best of times while filming the show and I love every scene they have together.

While I’m not overly fond of Mary and the logic of her story arc, I liked the other twists and turns we were presented with. Especially Moriarty was an interesting adversary and the final episodes were unexpected and impressive. I know the (so far) final season has the worst ratings of the entire show and it definitely wasn’t perfect and over the top at times. It was still pretty decent, I think and after a rocky start, the end was well written.

Sherlock is a great, smart and fun take on a set of characters that we’ve all seen before. Although the quality did deteriorate a little towards the end, it’s a win throughout for me!
