The Boys: Season 1 – A Review

Hey guys!
Today I want to share my thoughts on a show that was recommended to me by several friends. Let me tell you, they were so right! So, what makes this show great?

The Plot:

The Boys is set in a universe where superpowers exist and those people are seen as heroes. Vought is a company that manages and marked seven of the most famous superheroes. For Starlight a dream comes true when she is accepted into this elite circle. But she didn’t know what she signed up for.
In the meantime, Hughie deals with the loss of his girlfriend who died in an accident caused by one of the heroes. That’s enough to take a closer look at what’s really going on at Vought headquarters…

The Rating:

The Boys is so brilliant! I didn’t really know what to expect but once I watched the first episode I was hooked.

In the midst of numerous superhero movies and TV shows, I was surprised to see that The Boys actually had a very fresh and unique take on this whole thing. They really surprised me with the attitude towards the subject and absolutely nailed it.

The Boys comes with a lot of (sometimes funny) interesting twists and turns that touch many hot topics. If seen shows attempt and fail to incorporate current issues (keeping it vague to avoid spoilers) but The Boys did a pretty good job with that.

Although there is a LOT going on, the sub-plots all make sense and come together seamlessly. There weren’t any massive plot holes that defied any sense of logic so I’m happy.

I know the opinions on this show are often very mixed. Just like every other production, it’s not perfect and there are many things (for example the type of humor or the violence) that won’t be to everybody’s liking.
However, despite some flaws the show may have, I had a great time watching it and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

The Boys is one of my favorite discoveries of this year. I am glad my friends recommended it! After binging season 1 I am already stoked for season 2!
