Riverdale: Season 2 – A Review

Hello, my darling readers!
As you know, I hopped onto the Riverdale train and started binging this show. After I was rather smitten with season one, I immediately had to continue with season two. So let’s see whether it is as good!

The Plot:

After the breathtaking cliffhanger from season 1, we return to Riverdale to face a new mystery. The Blackhood is out for blood, but he is not the only dangerous person on the loose in Riverdale…

The Rating:

I really liked season 1, but here my feelings are a little more ambivalent. It was still a good season but definitely not as strong.

For starters, it felt really long. The mystery going on failed to fully transfix me and to hold my attention. About halfway through the season I actually began checking how many episodes I have left because it already felt like I’d been watching forever. While I was constantly on edge with the first season and thrilled to find out how it all would end, I didn’t care all that much with season 2.

Furthermore, I’m not 100% sure that all of this made sense but I certainly won’t go back and re-watch just to make sure.
This season had many super weird moments that out of context would never ever make the slightest sense (and even in context they don’t always d). I’ll just say: Betty doing the dance. Those of you who watched the season will know what I mean. If that wasn’t irritating, then I don’t know what is.

I think, the reason I was so disappointed is that the season had started off so strong. The cliffhanger at the end of season 1 was intense and I was beyond glad that I could continue watching right away.

This all sounds a bit negative, but the season wasn’t all that bad! It was actually quite enjoyable and rather interesting in terms of character development. My favorite character (+ story) so far is Jughead Jones, I really hope they don’t mess him up in future season. Mädchen Amik (mama Cooper) was also stunning in this season. She is such a talented actress and I can’t wait to see more from her!

Riverdale has a lot going on and already set the table for a great third season. Although season 2 wasn’t as good as the first one, I still enjoyed it and can’t wait to get started with the next one!

  1. I am not sure I could go through all the seasons again haha but Jughead definitely is my favourite all throughout, even if he gets more questionable with time too. I just sometimes wish they had stuck to the comics and let him be ace. That would have been such an interesting dynamic with all those hyperly sexually active/horny teens around.

  2. can’t wait to read what you think of the rest of the seasons! I think they do it on purpose, being really weird. it’s not taking itself seriously AT ALL. also – mommy cooper is my favourite!
