Home Alone 2

Hello, my darling readers!
When I decided to check out Home Alone for the very first time, I decided to make it a double tap and follow up with Home Alone 2. How does the sequel hold up in comparison to the original Christmas classic? Let’s find out!

The Plot:

If you’ve seen Home Alone you know where we are going with this. The McAllisters are taking a trip for Christmas again – this time to Florida. Well, the get separated at the airport and Kevin finds himself on a plane to New York. He barely has time to enjoy the big city life before he runs into some old enemies…

The Rating:

We all now sequels often don’t exactly scream quality, but I thought “when in Rome” and watched Home Alone 1 and 2 back to back.

So, what can be said about #2? It’s better than I would have expected!
The premise is flimsier than in the first part and they really stretch the audience’s readiness to accept the story.

That being said, the film certainly has it’s funny and adorable movies. I especially like the old man in the toy store. However, they also tried to bring back a lot of stuff from the first movie which I didn’t appreciate that much. For example the weird gangster flick Kevin watches. It was somewhat funny in Home Alone 1 but entirely overused in Home Alone 2.
The same goes for Kevin dealing out life advice. In the first movie, he has a heart to heart talk with his elderly neighbor and the result is just perfect for a Christmas movie. Well in the second film he does it again and I found myself rolling with my eyes because of all the wise words pouring out of this kid’s mouth.

Furthermore, the film felt much too long. I knew they’d bring the burglars back, so I was waiting for that part and just seemed to take forever to get there. I wish they had either focused on Kevin at the hotel and added some stuff there or cut that part short and put the focus on the burglar part. As-is, both parts were too long and things didn’t come together that well.

All in all, Home Alone 2 was enjoyable enough, especially considering it’s a sequel. It’s a halfway decent Christmas flick, but I don’t think I’d watch it again.

Did you watch the film? Let me know in the comments!

  1. It is an alright film though I do wish they would cut that cameo from our douchebag dictator. Plus, I did hear some of the stuff that Culkin said about the film and he said that the reason everyone did the film was because of $$$$$$ and admitted that they all phoned it in.

  2. I’m not sure a second one was necessary. The return of the McCallister family makes you realise that they are essentially horrible, horrible people and it is probably their fault that Kevin is such a heinous brat. While Kevin’s cunning is fun to watch it doesn’t help that his attack on the burglars seems to go on forever and that they have a cartoonish inability to die no matter how gravely they are injured.
