Hey, guys!
It’s Tuesday, that means it’s time for a bookish favorites posts. Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by Shanah Bionic Book Worm and is quite simple: check out the topic and write a post with your picks.
This week’s topic took some thinking for me. I don’t read romance so it wasn’t that easy to think of bookish couples, especially those who wouldn’t have lasted. My choices are pretty obvious ones 😉
#1 Harry/Ginny from the Harry Potter Books
Like almost everybody else I wasn’t that happy with the Harry Potter epilogue. To be honest, I am not fond of any of the couples we got. With Harry and Ginny I never really understood why they got together in the first place, so there’s no way they would have lasted!
#2 Hermione/Ron from the Harry Potter Books
The same goes for Ron and Hermione. Why did Rowling have to ship everybody off into the sunset with a spouse? It just feels a little forced and lead to pairings like the two I mentioned here.
As much as I like Ron, I don’t think Hermione would have had the patience to put up with him forever.
#3 Nick/Amy from Gone Girl
No spoilers here – but this is definitely one of the all-time worst couples I have ever encountered. Their relationship doesn’t even have a snowball’s chance in hell to last.
#4 Katniss and Peeta from The Hunger Games Books
While reading the books I was really annoyed with the love triangle. I honestly never put much thought into who Katniss might end up with as I just didn’t care. But when I was browsing bookish couples for this post, I had to think of them. The thing is they are together because of shared trauma not because they have anything else in common or any shared interest. Also, I’m not sure that Katniss is built for the easy-peasy standard family life. Ultimately things wouldn’t have worked out.
#5 Cersei/Jamie from the A Song of Ice and Fire Books
Just one word: INCEST. There are many reasons why Cersei and Jamie are a terrible couple but this one is certainly the biggest. Even if they would be able to convince the rest of the world that they should be together, it would never work out. Sooner or later Jamie would see Cersei’s true colors and the moment he isn’t 100% behind her, she’d readily walk over him.
Which couple would you name? Let me know in the comments!

I 100% disagree about Ron and Hermione and maintain they are perfect for each other.
Jaime and Cersei did “split” in a way in the later books. Jaime is done with her.
The other ones, I’m not sure. Nick is probably too afraid to leave Amy and the other two were bad couples to begin with so they’ll stay together because it’s “safe” lol

I know Jamie is atm done with Cersei, but the books aren’t over yet and in the TV show they also kind of got back together. 😉 So, no idea how that whole thing will end.

I totally agree with Ron and Hermoine! I HATE them together so much! I like Harry and Ginny together though. He loves her family and she’s just feisty enough to keep him in line. We needed more of their relationship in the books for it to make perfect sense though.

Ha! The romantic cynic in me just loves this topic and I think half the books I read the couples wouldn’t stay together past the last page.
