Hey guys!
You might have noticed my slight ACOTAR obsession during my last post. I promise, for now, this will be the last post on the topic!
I hadn’t originally planned for this one. However, while writing the other posts, I had one of my favorite playlist on the background. I titled it GRRRL Power. Well, once I started paying closer attention to the lyrics, it became apparent that I might as well have named it Feyre’s life in songs.
So here we go!
(GRRRL Power Playlist on Spotify – Feyre Archeron in Songs Playlist on Spotify)
Wolf – First Aid Kit
When I first heard this song, I immediately fell in love. The eerie atmosphere the singers’ voices creates, perfectly captures the vibe of Feyre hunting in the woods, when she brought down Andras and her life before Prythian.
Wolf-mother, where you been?
You look so worn, so thin
You’re a taker, devils-maker
Let me hear you sing, hey-ya hey-ya
Wolf-father, at the door
You don’t smile anymore
You’re a drifter, shape-shifter
Let me see you run, hey-ya hey-ya
Wolf – First Aid Kit
I am Revenant – The Distillers
I am Revenant captures Feyre’s feeling during the UTM time pretty well. Especially during the end, this is a fitting reflection.
You say I got karma to collect
I dig my grave and
I’m here waiting for some kind of check
If I get one ill hold my breath
I racked my spine
It takes a year of you to warrant a test
As the years go by I won’t cry
I am Revenant – The Distillers
Miss Nothing – The Pretty Reckless
After UTM, Feyre is back with Tamlin and she’s slowly wasting away. With no one to help her, she sinks deeper into that pool of dark horror inside her, about to drown.
And I don’t know where I’ve been
And I don’t know what I’m into
And I don’t know what I’ve done to meAnd as I watch you disappear into the ground
My one mistake was that I never let you down
So I’ll waste my time and I’ll burn my mind
On miss nothing, miss everything
Miss Nothing – The Pretty Reckless
Royals – Lorde
The lyrics of this song fit perfectly with our most beloved Illyrian boys. They are bastards, halfbreeds, outcasts. Their whole life they were treated like shit, nevertheless they stand strong. They are dreamers in a court of nightmares.
And we’ll never be royals
It don’t run in our blood
That kind of lux just ain’t for us
We crave a different kind of buzz
Let me be your ruler, you can call me Queen B
And baby I’ll rule (I’ll rule I’ll rule I’ll rule)
Let me live that fantasy
Royals – Lorde
Cell Block Tango – Catherina Zeta-Jones et al.
If Royals is the song for the man of the inner circle, Cell Block Tango is for all the women. For Mor, for Amren, for Feyre. All of them have endured so much already and will have to keep on fighting. People try to put them down, but they won’t stand for it.
In this song, different women tell their tales, so I’ll just include a few snippets that go perfectly will the inner circle ladies.
So I took the shotgun off the wall
And I fired two warning shots
Into his head (or warning shoes if you are Feyre)
… When I was washing the blood off my hands
I even knew they were dead (Amren all the way)
I guess you could say we broke up
Because of artistic differences.
He saw himself as alive
And I saw him dead. (Mor when it comes to her father or people from the Autumn Court)
Cell Block Tango – Catherina Zeta-Jones et al.
Girls Talk – Garbage feat. Brody Dalle
This songs perfectly describes Ianthe and Feyre. Ianthe is a total bitch who wants to play Feyre.
Girls talk shit when you’re backed up against it
Don’t believe any word that they hear
And you can do what it is that you want
Without some little bitch in your ear
And girls talk shit, making no bones about it
When you’re something that they don’t understand
Girls Talk – Garbage feat. Brody Dalle
Because the Night – Patti Smith
That’s the song that played in my head during Chapter 55. Feyre and Rhys finally admit their feelings for each other and this is the perfect song for it.
Take me now baby here as I am
Pull me close try an understand
I work all day out in the hot sun
Stay with me now till the mornin’ comes
Come on now try and understand
The way I feel when I’m in your hands
Take me now as the sun descends
They can’t hurt you now
Because the Night – Patti Smith
Spellbound – Siouxsie and the Banshees
This song always reminds me of the history Rhys and Feyre shared without even knowing it. They always belonged together, always had a connection even before they had ever met in person.
From the cradle bars
Comes a beckoning voice
It sends you spinning
You have no choice
You hear a laughter
Cracking through the walls
It sends you spinning
You have no choice
Spellbound – Siouxsie and the Banshees
Don’t Mess with Me – Brody Dalle
Feyre pretty much in all of ACOWAR. I love how her character evolved over the course of the three books. She finally believes in herself and is ready to take on the whole world.
Here they coming with their guns, guns, guns
See the news, take them on
You don’t wanna, don’t wanna
Don’t wanna mess with me
Don’t Mess with Me – Brody Dalle
Kill Me – The Pretty Reckless
When Feyre returns to the Spring Court at the beginning of ACOWAR this pretty much reflects her attitude. I love how bad ass she was during that time.
Let me open up the discussion with
I’m not impressed
With any mother fucking word I say
See I lied that I cried
When he came inside
And now I’m burning a highway Hades
Shut the fuck up
When I’m trying to think
I gotta keep my concentration
Give me one more drink
Kill Me – The Pretty Reckless
Bad Reputation – Joan Jett
When Feyre and the squad swagger into the room for the meeting of the High Lords, this song just has to play in the background. That’s nonnegotiable.
I don’t give a damn ’bout my reputation
You’re living in the past it’s a new generation
A girl can do what she wants to do and that’s
What I’m gonna do
An’ I don’t give a damn ‘ bout my bad reputation
Bad Reputation – Joan Jett
Raise Hell – Dorothy
I’m certain this is the song that plays in the background when Feyre and the inner circle stride into battle and you can’t convince me otherwise.
Young blood, run like a river
Young blood, never get chained
Young blood, heaven need a sinner
You can’t raise hell with a saintYoung blood, stand and deliver
No need for a queen affair
Young blood, gotta pull the trigger
When the whole world running scared
Raise Hell – Dorothy
You’ve Got the Love – Florence and the Machines
Whenever Feyre and Rhys are at their worst, when they are dealing with their past, the ghosts that still haunt them in ACOFAS I hear this song in the back of my head. No matter what they went through they support each other and will make it through all the horrors. Together.
Sometimes I feel like throwing my hands up in the air
I know I can count on you
Sometimes I feel like saying “Lord I just don’t care”
But you’ve got the love I need
To see me throughSometimes it seems the going is just too rough
And things go wrong no matter what I do
Now and then it seems that life is just too much
But you’ve got the love I need
To see me through
You’ve Got the Love – Florence and the Machines
Bonus Track:
Lying is the most fun
a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off – Panic at the Disco
This song is of course not part of my GRRRL Power playlist. But it’s such a marvelous fit, I wanted to include it anyway.
I bet the lyrics represent exactly Tamlin the Tool’s thoughts after Feyre dumped him for Rhys.
Is it still me that makes you sweat?
Am I who you think about in bed?
When the lights are dim and your hands are shaking as you’re sliding off your dress?
Well, then think of what you did
And how I hope to God he was worth it
Lying is the most fun
a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off – Panic at the Disco
