Hey Guys!
There seems to have been a bit of a boom on those fantasy action horror type of thing movies in the last years. I already review The Last Witch Hunter and Dracula Untold. I figured Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters fits in very well in this line of films, so let’s check it out.
The Plot:
The title already says it all: After Hansel and Gretel defeated the evil witch they somehow had to make a living. The siblings ended up as witch exterminators for hire!
The Rating:
I remember reading a genre description for this film that went as follows: dark fantasy action horror comedy movie. That’s five different things there. Did anybody really believe that this could work?
There were a couple of doubts before I started watching and turns out I was right.
Obviously, this film is trying to be too many different things at once, thus failing at fully convincing in any of the genres. The movie seems to be contradicting itself by being earnest and then making fun of the exact same thing five minutes later. That’s not entertaining but outright annoying.
The story is extremely thin. The jokes are so flat, the almost creep into the ground. The action and especially the splatter are way over the top. You can see that none of that really fits together!
Most of the film was rather irritating and it felt far longer than 88 minutes. The scariest part was the subtle promise of more to come.
This film isn’t working on any level. Save yourself the time and just skip it!

So with you on this one! I actually saw this in the cinema…and in 3D as well because it was the only showing! I don’t remember a single moment of it…

It’s the kind of film you already forgot about by the time you are out of the cinema.
