A Series of Unfortunate Events – Season 2

Hello my lovely readers!
On 30th March Netflix finally released the long-awaited second season of A Series of Unfortunate Events. The 10 episodes cover the novels 5 to 9 of Daniel Handler’s famous series. Let’s see whether the second season is as good as the first one!

The Plot:
At the end of the last season, the Beaudelairs made it to Prufrock Preparatory School. So, in the first two episodes the orphans try to get as comfortable was possible which is certainly a challenge, especially when Count Olaf returns. Violet, Klaus and Sunny try to escape his clutches and figure out the mystery surrounding their parents. They have to deal with an ersatz elevator, a vile village, a hostile hospital and a carnivorous carnival. However, their series of unfortunate events is far from over…

The Rating:
Although I was very excited about this season, I had my troubles getting back in. A Series of Unfortunate Events is the of show that requires a certain mood to watch, otherwise the whole thing can get on your nerves pretty easily. However, after the first to episodes I was back in the game and binge-watching.
The first thing I’d like to praise is the strong performance by all three actors portraying the Beaudelairs. Malina Weissman, Louis Hynes and Presley Smith are impressive and really stepped up their game in comparison to season one.
Furthermore, we get some lovely additions to the cast, especially Sara Rue is wonderful! My favorite is Nathan Fillion who plays Jacques Snicket and is absolutely brilliant.
Of course, Neil Patrick Harris returns as Count Olaf and you can tell how much fun the role is for him. Not only does he excel in various disguises, he also sings the theme songs which changes every other episode.
In the second season, the Beaudelair orphans begin to explore their darker side and stumble upon several internal conflicts. So, despite the humorous tone the show usually has, this adds a level of depth and keeps things interesting. Moreover, I can’t wait to see where this will go in the final season!

A Series of Unfortunate Events is never what you expect. The brilliant actors and plot-twist will keep you excited and longing for season 3!
