Book Review: The Penultimate Peril by Lemony Snicket (A Series of Unfortunate Events #12)

The end is drawing near. I just finished the penultimate book in Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate Events.What can you expect from The Penultimate Peril?

The Plot:
Well, for each step the Beaudelairs take to get closer to solving the mystery surrounding their lives, they are thrown back three. Once again they escaped Count Olaf’s clutches and now arrived at the Hotel Denouement. Just inches away from meeting the VFD people who might be able to tell the Beaudelair orphans about their parents, the evil side of VFD prepares to take over. Which side will the Beaudelairs be on?

The Rating:
I have to admit, this book broke my heart. Many awful things had befallen the Beaudelairs but I hadn’t seen this coming. Or at least I had desperately wished for events not to turn this way. After this end, I really hope things will finally change in the book.
If even possible The Penultimate Peril will confuse you even more than you already are. Many new characters are introduced and many old friends and enemies return. However, we end up no closer to the solution than we had been before.
So if Daniel Handler aka Lemony Snicket doesn’t clear this up in the final nobel, I will be really mad at him!

The Penultimate Peril was the saddest installment in the Series of Unfortunate Events so far. I can’t wait for the final to make things right!
