This post is another installment in my “better late than never” series. People have been swooning about Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes for years now but I never had the time or the interest to check in with the show.
However, I finally changed my mind – and I’m glad I did!
Thought #1 – The Books:
So far I’ve only seen the first season but I can already tell that this show is great. I love how the original stories made the transition in today’s world. Although only loosely based on Arthur Conan Doyle’s books, you can still see where it came from. I’m 100% inspired to check out the novels now!
Thought #2 – Benedict Cumberbatch:
He’s brilliant. If there is a rather antisocial character anywhere on television you can count on me to bond with him or her. Those are the characters I can understand.
This Sherlock reminds me of two other characters mixed together: Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory (super smart and super awkward when it comes to any social contact) and Doctor Who. I don’t know why Benedict Cumberbatch’s interpretation reminds me so much of the Doctor. Maybe because he’s so very English. 😉 It may sound like a weird combination to you but it totally works out!
Thought #3 – The Humor:
Something I most certainly didn’t expect from this show was to make me laugh. However, I appreciate Sherlock’s often sarcastic comments and Watson’s rather annoyed replies. I would even go as far as calling Sherlock a funny show. At least for me, but I have a weird sense of humor. 😛 I ended up at least with a smirk for about half of the time!
Did you watch Sherlock? Let me know in the comments what you think!
