TV Show Spotlight: Jessica Jones

Hello folks!
I finally found the time to check out one of Marvel’s latest TV Shows. I had heard many great things about Jessica Jones, so I decided to give it a shot!

What is it about?
Jessica Jones has some special powers. She is super strong and can jump (almost like flying) very high. However, she ditched the superhero thing and is working as a private investigator when something from her past is about to smack her in the face. A dangerous man – Kilgrave – has returned…

Why should you check it out?
Honest to blog, I had some reservations about even getting started with this show. First of all, I have my problems with superhero stuff. The last time I tried to watch a show like that I gave up after two episodes, because everything was completely over the top and simply a collection of clichés. Well, my first concern dissolved immediately.
Although the show does have a superhero theme, it is not as present as it is in other shows. The fact that she has super powers is more of a side note. Even the villain with his powers is more intense on a psychological  level than anything else.
So, the second doubt I had concerned Krysten Ritter. I’ve seen her in several shows but so far never liked her. She only annoyed me in Don’t Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23 and ‘Til Death. She was somewhat agreeable in Breaking Bad but she wasn’t in the show long enough for me to really bond with her character.
I started watching Jessica Jones with mixed feelings. But believe me, I’m now a Krysten Ritter fan. She was the perfect choice for this role and I enjoyed her performance all the way through. In addition we get some more amazing casting decisions: Carrie-Anne Moss (remember Matrix?) and David Tennant (Doctor Who!!!). I hadn’t really informed myself about the show beforehand so I was very surprised!
The story in general was super intense and fascinating. I binge-watched all thirteen episodes and now I can’t wait for the next season!

Did you watch Jessica Jones? What do you think? Let me know in the comments!
