Movie Mania: Braindead aka Dead Alive

As I was writing about The Lord of the Rings recently I decided to re-watch one of my favourite Peter Jackson movies ever: Braindead a.k.a. Dead Alive. Ever heard of this zombie comedy gore?

The Plot:

The whole trouble begins when a Sumatran rat-monkey is taken to a zoo in New Zealand.
Lionel takes Paquita on a dead there only to be stalked by his mother. While observing the two young lovers she is bitten by the rat-monkey. We soon  learn that the monkey would have better stayed where it came from. The bite leads to a zombification and soon before long Lionel is drowning in zombies…

The Rating:

As I mentioned above, this is one of my most beloved Peter Jackson films. Braindead has it all: great actors, a good story, awesome laughs and a whole lot of blood.
I’ve watched quite a bunch of horror movies but there are only very few with as much fake blood in it as we get in Braindead. Although the gory stuff is often way over the top, it works perfectly in this movie.
Furthermore, you will laugh your ass off. There are so many ridiculous scenes that blend in with the rest of the story. The ideas are extremely original and I’ve never seen anything like it before.

Braindead is one of the movies that will always be funny no matter how often you watch them. The gory aspect just as great as the fun in the story. If you like horror comedies, you will absolutely love this one.

Have you already seen it? Love it? Hate it? Let me know in the comments!
