The second movie that is inevitable for me during Christmas time is Love Actually. To be honest, this usually is absolutely not the kind of movie is liked to watch. Normally I’d try to forgo such romantic comedies. But a few years ago I crashed into this movie and since then it has become a firm part of my holiday routine.
The story revolves around several love stories. One couple for example meets at the set of a porno movie. They work as body doubles and fall in love. Another story is about the Prime Minister (played by Hugh Grant) who falls for a girl who has just started working in his office. We have a sad and heartbroken writer who likes his new housekeeper but can’t talk to her as she only speaks Portuguese. And many more 😉
I’m not gonna talk about all the love stories mentioned in the movie as I don’t to spoil the surprises. I just want to say that no matter which of the stories you take, they all are heartwarming. Granted, some of them also break your heart and rip it to pieces but still this movie is simply lovely. You can’t help but sympathize with all of the characters and feel with them. Some of the stories are just so darn cute I can’t wait to see them again this year. The movie is stuffed to the top with many amazing actors like Liam Neeson (playing a father), Colin Firth (portraying a heartbroken writer) and also Keira Knightly, Emma Thompson and Bill Nighy. Additional praise goes to Thomas Sangster for both the cutest love story as well as the saddest plotline in the entire film.
So even if you are absolutely not into this kind of film I warmly recommend watching it. Sometimes this kind of movie is all you need, especially during the Christmas holidays it suits just perfectly. And some of the stories are very funny, so don’t think it’s just pure love story cliché filled with so much romance that it makes you almost sick. Indeed it is a warm-hearted movie with many funny, fresh, lovely and sometimes heartbreaking ideas.
